Sure, it has become a heaping pile of ’90s buzz-bin leftovers and Gremlins dolls in Santa suits, but in the pre-download days, the Virgin Megastore was a Mecca to the tourist masses. This weekend, in anticipation of the Times Square institution’s well-publicized implosion, the Sublime poster outlet venerated t-shirt emporium and sometimes music retailer put its entire stock on sale.
Flavorwire’s resident urban adventurers Andy and Leah hit the land of blinking lights to wade through the storewide clearance. It wasn’t quite what they expected, but their photo set still turned out better than the bargains… once porn became inexplicably involved…

Nice work, you two. Unsurprisingly, the Virgin Megastore in Chicago went out of business in 2007. We couldn't stand for that overpriced foolishness. It has recently been replaced by a Forever 21, which offers vastly more cultural value. ;)
The headset cables at those listening stations were always so chewed-looking. I got electro-shock therapy hearing a Weezer album I had no intention of buying — but *had* to check on the off chance it rocked. Make the buzzing noises stop, Virgin! Make them stop!!!
forever 21, you say? i believe that's the same vendor slated to take over this times square location! there was way more clothing on sale than anything involving music, so maybe it's a wise move — for forever 21, anyway. giving the tourists what they want, it seems…
Can I borrow Naked Aces 4 when you're done? I'm on 5, but I forgot how the scene with Marco Banderas and Jada Fire ends.
I am alone, I just woke up, and I still laughed out loud 3 times. Way to go. PS. My friend is on the cover of Cum On My Tattoo 3… I won't judge.
I think you made a prudent choice.
Will there we a public viewing of this gem of a DVD? It reminds me of the movie that we used to out on at Brewsky's late night of the naked women wrestling. It either cleared out the bar stat or ended up causing severe debauchery. Oh the good old days…………
Nice work, aces. Made for a good laugh on a crappy workday.
I often wonder why the Virgin Megastore still exists. Finally, the mist on my pondering is cleared (thanks to your hilarious and fine sleuthing): a variety of top dollar pornography and 'dramatic' post-Christmas sales.
yay capitalism, indeed.
