Pic of the Day: The Photo Anna Wintour Famously Axed from Vogue

In the fantastic documentary The September Issue, we got a first-hand glimpse at the tension between Vogue‘s visionary creative director, Grace Coddington, and icy editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The two fought about one photo in particular. Coddington loved the Jazz Age picnic image and intended to run it in the magazine. Wintour didn’t care for it. Guess who won? Thankfully for Team Grace, Coco Rocha has recovered the lost shot. [via Jezebel]

Man this is just a testament to how the documentary made you feel about Coddington and Wintour and their contrasting viewpoints, one favoring a rebelling against the trend of superficial celebrity-centered spreads for an allegiance to the artistic purposes of Vogue, and one, admittedly savier, shifting ahead of and then dictating the direction of the magazine industry, particularly in the realm of editorial fashion spreads. Vogue used to be so much prettier. Sad.
