Zadie Smith & Nick Laird
Yeah, they’re the most attractive literary couple ever. They met and Cambridge and they’re both incredibly brilliant. She, a famous fiction writer, he a prize-winning poet. Sigh.

You forgot Dara Wier and James Tate!
Ironic that a post about literary power couples contains the most grammatical and spelling errors I’ve seen in a long time.
Thank you thank you thank you for not including Michael Chabon & Ayelet Waldman or Dave Eggers & Vendela Vida. I guess only time will tell how Tao Lin & Megan Boyle turn out, both in terms of ‘power’ and ‘literary’.
I didn’t even know some of the people on the list were married! Learning all the time.
er, Dave Eggers and Vendelia Vida?
Dashiell Hammett and Lillian Hellmann?
I feel like an idiot that I had no idea that David was DFW when I was reading Lit. Total mind explosion.
What about Thomas Carlyle and Jane Baillie Welsh (the latter memorialized by poet Leigh Hunt in his poem, “Jenny kissed me when we met . . .,” or Hemingway and Martha Gellhorn, Jean Rhys and Ford Madox Ford, Simone Beauvoir and Jean Paul Sartre . . . lots of literary lovers have managed to love and write outside of Brooklyn and Berkeley.
Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West? George Eliot and G.H. Lewes?
Robert Boswell and Antonya Nelson
Ooh fun! I did a post about this back in September but forgot some that you added! But for sure JSF and Nicole were my #1′s..so much talent in that relationship!

What about the Brownings (Elizabeth Barrett and Robert)? That was the instant connection for me when I read the title of this article.

You forgot the most important couple of all : Jean Paul Sartre & Simone de Beauvoir. Da !
Paul and Jane Bowles
Sigh, ain’t love grand!! ( I did not see any errors )
Katherine Mansfield and John Middleton Murry — the real-life couple was satirized in two novels with characters based on them: D.H. Lawrence’s “Women in Love” and Aldous Huxley’s “Point Counter Point.” (My master’s thesis 37 years ago.)
Michael Chabon & Ayelet Waldman
Though never married, to me the literary power couple was Harper Nell Lee and Truman Capote.
Silvina Ocampo & Adolfo Bioy Casares
Perhaps Louise Erdrich and Michael Dorris? Power couple, sure. Happy couple, not really.
There are quite a few in genre literature these days. In fantasy/science fiction, three that spring to mind are Ellen Kushner & Delia Sherman, Melanie Tem & Steve Rasnick Tem, and the couple who write together as Ilona Andrews.
robert graves and laura riding
On second thought, you might want to reconsider Chabon & Waldman!

I too am shocked not to see de Beauvoir & Sartre there! But otherwise loved the list.
Minnie Bruce Pratt and Leslie Feinberg.
Geraldine Brooks and Tony Horwitz.
