Photo Gallery: Looking for Stanley Kubrick

4

Famed filmmaker Stanley Kubrick — who died 12 years ago this week — both hated Hollywood and feared flying, which might explain why all of his projects after 1962 were made in Britain, near his adopted home of St Albans in the English countryside. Utilizing behind-the-scenes photographs, call sheets, and other original material in Kubrick’s personal archives, photographer Neil Hall spent months documenting the landscapes and architectures that he transformed in his films. Click through for a selection of photographs of set locations for Lolita, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut, and Barry Lyndon.

Great pics – I had no idea Kubrick made most of his films in the UK

These are really interesting, you wonder why they don’t do more projects looking back at old films. I’d like to see more – is there a book available?

I like this photo so much there is a fantastic contrast between the shape of the stairs that seem too flow like a waterfall and the bold upright stretching statue in the centre of the photo.
