Larry Marion’s new book The Lost Beatles Photographs features a selection of the over 900 images of the band snapped by Bob Bonis, the Fab Four’s tour manager for all three of their US tours in the mid 1960s. What he lacks in professional skill, Bonis makes up for in unparalleled access; the photos capture everything from live performance shots to intimate backstage moments to the bandmates hanging out in their downtime. Practical Magic, definitely. It’s not a wonderful movie but it is immensely enjoyable. The book had no character growth and little of the depth of family unity that the movie demonstrates.
The shot of McCartney on stage is listed as being from the August 1965 tour. The shot is incorrectly labeled as the military/police jackets worn at the Shea Stadium concert a week earlier were worn for each show on that tour. Cool shot, though, whenever it was taken.
