Want to Ruin Your Childhood? Disney Princesses as the 7 Deadly Sins

25

If you thought Disney cartoons were all talking animals, musical numbers and good winning over evil, think again. Artist Chris Hill has created portraits of your favorite Disney Princesses, re-imagined as the sins they embody – from sloth to envy, vanity to lust – and we have to say, we totally see it. Some pairings are more apt than others – we think Jasmine was never really wrathful, it was more like naughty – but on the whole it’s an illuminating project from a talented illustrator. Click through to see the deadly sin reincarnations of Belle, Ariel, and all the rest of those pristine moral princesses.

He’s made the DPs look like drag queens!

Interesting idea..but it’s like he’s never seen the movies…Cinderella should have been greed…Little Mermaid should have been lust…the only ones that make sense are Tinker Bell as Envy (though she’s not a princess, duh) and Sleeping beauty as Sloth (that’s pretty funny, c’mon).

Wheres princess jasmin from alladin?

Dan, she’s the last one: Wrath.

It’s an interesting concept but I don’t think most of these fit very well. There are more Disney Princesses than the traditional classics and I think a few of them would have been better suited.

disney is a huge money-suck, no matter which way you cut it.

Wrath is my favorite.

The sin-to-princess mapping isn’t perfect, but that doesn’t matter to me. These are all such pretty images. Chris Hill is a good illustrator.

[...] wasn’t obsessed with her looks. And Jasmine wasn’t exactly wrathful, more naughty, as Flavorwire points out. But the princesses, the artist says, are victims of the respected sin. And that makes [...]

Not sure about all of them, though since Ariel has expressed a want for things “greed” is a good fit for her.

Isn’t Wrath Esmeralda? Looks more like her than Jasmine with the gypsy belt

Does Snow White have words? I’ve been staring at it and cannot figure it out.

Wrath is Jasmine. When she becomes Jafar’s “slave,” she wears a red costume. Wikipedia/Google image it.

@Marta I can’t really read Snow White’s either, but I it must be Gluttony.

They are all well-excuted, but I face-palmed. These are the most common DeviantArt cliches, all rolled into one: 7 Deadly Sins, Disney Princess Fanart, and Mucha imitators. Props to the artist for knowing his market, I guess.

mulan would have been good for pride.

@Anne-Marie – I disagree! Ariel hoarding all of those human “treasures” in her underwater grotto? TOTALLY greed? How was Cinderella ever greedy? Lust I get. She was given all the stuff she got – she was perfectly happy to go to the ball in the less-than-fancy dress she made herself, but then she gets there and is ready to get with the first guy she meets at the party. And she didn’t even realize he was the Prince, so it wasn’t even about his money! She was just ready to get her freak on! Total lust!

I thought all of these fit perfectly! :)

One nitpick for this — vanity isn’t one of the 7, the missing one is Pride.

Granted, one can argue — and probably will — that vanity is being prideful of one’s own appearance, but blurring the lines like that seems disingenuous.

That being said, I love the artwork and concept! Kudos!

To me the last one looks more like Megara from Hercules than Jasmine from Aladdin.

The last one is DEFINITELY Jasmine. She’s holding Jafars staff

facepalm
vanity is pride, good sir.
