Follow Me Down by Kio Stark
This novel is part of Richard Nash’s Red Lemonade online publishing venture, which promotes great work from indie authors. Roth writes, “Since we’re based in the rapidly changing, culturally diverse Crown Heights neighborhood, Kio Stark’s account of a young NYC transplant finding her footing in a gritty urban environment struck a chord.”

love flavorwire, love this book, but — ‘other people we married’ is a short story collection, not a novel… which you also did point out ?
The Great Frustration is also a collection of stories, and Revolution is a memoir.
Alright people, we give. It’s now “books.”
I would like to add an honorable mention for “The Family Fang” by Kevin Wilson, which is probably my favorite novel of the year so far. (Along with “Swamplandia!”, so thanks for including that.)
And though it was hyped like a mofo, “The Tiger’s Wife” is truly a strong piece of fiction. Worth an honorable mention as well I’d think.
Family Fang is a glaring omission. It just came out last month, but it’s absolutely incredible from start to finish.
Family Fang rocks! But this is mostly a New York list anyway. Basically people who have read at the Franklin Park Series. Another instance of New York believing New York is the only literary scene. Which is not to say these are not good books. As a last minute, recently published suggestion, I’m reading We the Animals, and it is amazing.
I also love Flavorwire, I just have to mention a new book called To Kill a Stone Heart by Mason Dove, which I’ve just read (twice). It’s so different, unique to anything I have read before it seems to be picking up more of a buzz, interest daily with people I have spoken to or with other reviews on other sites.
The book has a unique protagonist Fenton Stone who has to solve his police father’s murder amongst other things. He has been classed as a modern day Sherlock Holmes for a new generation and although the author has been inspired by such novels (look out for references throughout) it is much more and would be enjoyed by a wide range of people. I don’t want to give too much away of the story however its non-stop action from the beginning and it will keep your interest as well as make you think. Well worth checking out and I highly recommend it.
