honestly….i really hope we’re not turning Wall St into Tahir Sq, because they’re not even about the same issues. If we were fighting to overturn a government for democracy than just fighting big corporations impact on politics, then this sign might make sense.
awesome photos. thanks for documenting!
I completely agree with your reservation. I asked her about the sign and she indicated it was more about the influence Tahrir Square had on other Middle Eastern countries as opposed to encouraging a government coup. So Tahrir Square as an archetype of how to start a successful movement.
Exactly as I expected. Communists, lunatics and some well meaning imbeciles.
Well meaning imbeciles?! You think everything is fine in this country? Have you read their decree? Our government is more a corporation than a government. This protest is what our country has needed for a long time. I will be helping to assemble ours in Detroit. This has nothing to do with communism. This is about the shift of power going back to the people, not the richest 1%. We do not want to sacrifice our lives and our nation for the sake of a corporate economy with no responsibility or conscience.
Dear Flavorpill moderator, thank you for your censorship. Nice to know you will let people speak against a cause but not for it.
@Marianne – What are you talking about? No one censored your comment. Sometimes it takes a bit for things to show up on the site.
Indeed. Had about a 15 minute lapse. You guys are not jerks. Sorry for the thorns. Love photo with the flag and all the corporate logos as stars as he’s wearing the pin that says it’s only class warfare when we fight back. RESONANCE.
anyone know who this fellow is? i met him on the G/7 train once…nice fellow
If you want to say something in protest, be specific. Ban naked shortselling, ban oil speculation ( that makes the price we pay for gas higher) not wall street sucks. Tax corps that create offshore jobs and make them bring the profits back to the US. Not we want more fing jobs. Jeez just go protest the war and stop sounding so stupid.
The odd spectacle of Americans voting against their own self interest may be coming to an end. Could it be that we are finally sick of our schools being underfunded, our infrastructure collapsing, pathetic health care, the largest military budget on Earth at the same time as the concentration of wealth at the top is at record levels? I hope so.
i fully support the protest, and would be there in a heartbeat if i was anywhere near the northeast US. however, i sometimes wonder if people realize that dressing like circus freaks only discredits them in the eyes of your typical main street american. it shouldn’t be a catwalk for eccentricities, it shouldn’t be about throwing your individuality in someone else’s face, it should be about solidarity, about convincing someone who’s on the fence that you have something in common and that you are connected. “communists, lunatics and some well meaning imbeciles”? yep, that is EXACTLY what the people you should be trying to get on your side are thinking, and it’s all because of your stupid f**king sunglasses, wigs, and various other WACKY accessories. ugh.
hey! thanks for deleting my comment! what’s that about a 15 minute delay? i posted it a few hours ago.
hmm, or comments magically appear if someone mentions that you’ve deleted a comment? i don’t understand, and now i look like a jerk. oh well.
Stop making excuses and save the criticism for those who deserve it. The movement is not just happening in NYC/Wall St.

And every timeI have expressed this sentiment to anyone I have been blasted for being negative about “the movement.” Which makes me sad, because as long as “Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line.” continues to be the pattern those of us on the center left will constantly be subjected to politics as emotional theatre. And our sensible solutions to the base layer problems will be ignored by the left and rejected by the right.
It only the demonstrations could be as powerful as this:
I’d rather support a rag tag group of protesters with legitimate concerns, than those TeaBaggers that support companies over people, applaud state executions, and decry healthcare for all Americans.
Regarding the first comment on here… One of the main issues that brought Egyptians out into Tahrir Square was the high unemployment and low minimum wage, as well as rule by a military-focused government. That is one similarity, and I’m sure there are others.
Why aren’t WE – the American people…creating jobs?? Does it have to be a Steve Jobs or Bill Gates that does it FOR US???
