A few weeks back we shared Carli Davidson’s dramatic images of canines mid-shake with you. Now, the talented pet photographer is back with a new book project that was inspired by a beautiful wheelchair-bound German Shepherd that she spotted happily playing fetch with its owner. “I thought a lot about this pair in the following weeks, and decided I wanted to create project showcasing differently abled pets and telling their stories in order to show the world that they are happy, thriving companions,” she explained to My Modern Met. “They are not sad, they are not in pain, and the owners and animals continue to be a great value to one another.” Click through to check out a few early images from the series, which Davidson hopes will lead to “a greater acceptance of these pets.”

The main difference that I see between man and dog is that a dog never says “That’s too hard to do” or “It’s impossible”. They wake up every morning and live with their challenges NOT CARING that they have them – just caring that they WOKE UP. If I live to be 1000, and live every day to the best of my ability and for the sole benefit of helping others… I’ll never be good as my dog.
Tracy Clark, that’s beautiful. So are these photos.
Beautiful and inspirational!
Awesome! These guys look so happy. Animals can be so inspiring. :0)
Wow…made me cry happy tears….animals love unconditionally. I had a boston terrier with a doggie “wheelchair” and he was happy clear to the day he went to doggie heaven. Now I have a blind boston and a deaf boston, who love life to the fullest. Great pictures!!
As bad as you might feel for these dogs, you can tell that they are smiling in these photos. All they care about is spending time with their humans. Every animal is beautiful, no matter what condition they are in!
Hmmm, I fail to see cats aren’t on here…
wow, Tracy Clark, you nailed it! And CARLI, thank you. Once again, you have completely blown my heart wide open. LOVE!
thank you for doing this, I think that they are beautiful..I wish humans could be as accepting as the pets are.
Once again I am inspired by dogs… unconditionally loving us and never giving up!
We could sure learn a thing or two from our four legged companions. Like accepting things, love, compassion and understanding of our fellow “humans”. This is truly wonderful!
My favorite cat in the world was born with three legs. Her mother gave birth to 5 kittens in my bedroom when I was 16 years old and a couple days later I noticed that one was missing her front left leg. We ended up keeping her because I couldn’t part with her after helping her eat and get in there with her brothers and sisters. She is now about 6 years old and is happy and healthy, a little chubby since she isn’t as active. She is very shy but once she loves you she is the sweetest thing ever. Since we have had her, I have always let people know if the know of a cat that is missing a limb to let me know because I am more then willing to take it in when there might not be anyone else who wants it. These pictures are so awesome and I hope people can see how animals with disabilities can still live a normal life!
These are amazing, how inspiring animals can be! Some would say, that’s disgusting, that’s ugly. I say that’s amazing.
this is the besttest idea ever!! :-) okay fine the greatest!!!
My husband & I have two blind pugs – who are the absolute JOYS of our lives! Thank you for taking “disabled” pets and shining a light on them that not everyone sees!!!! :)
Tracy, Your comment went straight thru my heart. 3 years ago I had my best friend put down on the advice of our vet due to his deteriorating spinal control. After convincing me my loved pet was experiencing terrible pain we sadly said good-bye. However, after my son urging me to do so, we had him cremated and on his words, keep a part of Ki until you are ready to let go. Now after seeing these dogs I will forever wonder if I should have sought out another vet, one with more compassion, that may have an alternative solution then the way we took. Now I’ll forever wonder and wish especially think of the what if……
My deaf pup recently passed on due to his little body not developing right and his organs failing. But he never knew he had a problem an walked down the street with a skip to his step. He loved life and loved people. He faced all of his fears head on and overcame them all in his time here. Inspiring to know a pup can be more courageous that most humans.
They are all soo beautiful!! I too am inspired!! They do love unconditionally, bless their little hearts!! Yes thank you for the pics!!
Theyare all adorable. I to ahve a seetie just like the poodle. His name is Scooter and he was born without his front legs. Scooter now 9 months old a bloxer/lab mix has been with us since he was 6 weeks old.
“If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.” -Mark Twain
Animals are Gods gift to us in so many ways. We all can learn from them. If they can live and over come their disability….Their is hope that we too can as well.
Seems like everyday life here in my household, with my rescue chihuahua that was born without any feet. You can’t tell that dog he ain’t got feet – chases the cats and jumps on the couch like any other. Best part is that running on carpet makes his stumps sound like little hooves galloping!
They certainly don’t know there is anything wrong with them – it’s just the way they are! I’ve met blind bunnies (with their guide-buns), tripod turtles (his name is Tippy), and a wheelchair-terrier who used to visit the Kansas City Renaissance Faier every year. When Pearl finally died after years of happy visits, the entire cast mourned her passing.
What wonderful little creatures, it lifts my spirits to see that they are loved and cared for and not, like many, discarded because of their imperfections. I have a blind cat who manages to lead an almost normal life he does not let his disability stop him doing what he wants to do and he never complains, he makes me feel so humble and keeps me in check when I moan about petty things. Animals are such an inspiration …..
These pictures are VERY touching and inspirational!!! Thanks for sharing these pictures with us! I am truly touched by what I see in the faces of these sweet, furry friends!
This is the sweetest thing I ever saw. :.) What beautiful and inspiring pictures.
Beautiful pictures. It’s true, these beautiful dogs never complain. As long as they are loved and live happy lives, that’s all that matters. I have never seen anything so inspiring such as these pictures.
The only obstacle companion animals with different abilities have are unwilling or uncapable owners that don’t want to bother. That’s why I congratulate the owners of these pets who really deserve their lovong and exciting company!
God bless these little creatures. I love them one and all. They know not how much love and happiness they bring. I know my life wouldn’t be as full without my little canine kids.

I had a cocker spaniel who was both blind and deaf. The vet told me not to move the furniture and she got along fine. Lived to be 17

This all warms my heart and that was definitely beautiful Tracy. Thank you for sharing your words of beauty.
Tracy Clark, there are people with that same outlook that you have described. My husband is one of them. He was left a quadriplegic with brain damage resulting in vision and memory loss after a vehicle accident. Nothing stops him (2 and a half years after his accident he was in college)and believe me, he is very thankful and aware of every breath that he takes. What I love about these pictures is their ability to let humans know that there is life after disability for pets and makes you realise that euthanasia is not the best option for them.
OMG! I love these babies! Can i have them???? They are all so beautiful!!! I swear, if i had the room, i’d have all kinds of animals!

Beautiful images! I’ve had my Staffordshire, Bodhisattva, since he was 6 weeks old, & he’s now 13. He learned basic commands in sign language by the time he was 8 weeks old, & now that he’s deaf, it’s paying off. Love the special needs animals!

Thank you so much for helping to create awareness. I am the proud owner of a paralised ridgeback “Axel” who became pralised 3 years ago after being run over. He still leads a great life and his condition has only strengthened our bond. He still enjoys walks, drives in the car and we took him and our other dor Harri on holidays a few months ago. We as humans don’t give these amazing creatures the credit due, never does Axel complain or look depressed, in his eyes he is still a normal happy boy.
I had a st. bernard that loved my family to death. He would do anything to protect us, and would give his life for us. Sometimes we would bury ourselves with snow and he would dig us out and cuddle up to us. He lived in the garage outside for five or six years and didn’t get that much attention. But when we moved he got to live inside and loved life so much. He was an amazing dog that wouldn’t let anything in life hurt us. And even though he’s not here any more I still think about him any day and always will.
Wow wow wow Humans have nothing compared to these wonderful doggies x x
