The Return of the ‘Back to the Future’ Series

2

Earlier this year we told you about Back to the Future, an interesting portraiture project in which Buenos Aires-born artist Irina Werning invited her subjects to re-create their old photos. The resulting images were incredibly detailed — using the same locations, and in many cases the same clothes and “props” that were seen in the original (or larger approximations). “I love old photos,” Werning has explained. “I admit being a nosy photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today.”

Now, she’s back with the second installment of the ongoing time-travel series, and the photos are just as fascinating as they were the first time around — particularly the redux of an image snapped back when part of the Berlin Wall was still standing. Click through to for a slideshow of some of our favorite shots, and head over to Werning’s website for more images and information about how to get involved yourself.
