A Sitcom Map of the USA

9

Let’s play a word association game. What comes to mind upon reading the words, “Bel Air, CA”? If you’re anything like us, you just took a minute to tell us a story all about how your life got flipped, turned upside down. Are we right or are we right? What about the words, “Scranton, PA”? Did you start humming this? All across the United States, there are awesome little towns that will always be known as sitcom towns. Was a show actually filmed there? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean we can’t brag about growing up near Cory Matthews or the Tanner family. With a little help from Google Maps, we’ve plotted TV towns all across the USA on one handy map. Check out our sweet sitcom cartography skills after the jump, and plan your next road trip accordingly.

Saved By The Bell in Indiana? What??

I don’t think many of these are correct. As x mentioned (and I, too, thought), wasn’t Saved by the Bell in California? As is Community (Greendale, CA, not CO). It’s never snowing on Community’s Xmas episodes, nor do they even try to fake it being cold. There’s no way it takes place in Colorado.

Meant to specify the fun fact about the random “Saved by the Bell” in Indianapolis – that it originated as this, with mostly the same cast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNbqtiAPEck . Fixed! I had it in CA, too.

And Community is definitely in Colorado, gv! But keep ‘em coming and I’ll fix the others you think are wrong?
“Welcome to Greendale Community College, located right in the heart of Greendale, Colorado. We are here for you, and the great people of our city, county and state!”

I’d add Dillon, TX for the unbelievably great show Friday Night Lights.

Is this a work-in-progress? No Minneapolis (Mary Tyler Moore)? No Boulder, CO (Mork & Mindy)? No Llanford, IL (Roseanne)? I could go on.

And WTF, The Torkelsons?

Hello, Larry for Portland, OR.
I don’t think Portlandia qualifies as a sitcom. It is sketch comedy.
Many of the characters and places in The Simpsons are named after streets and places in Portland, but of course it is set in the fictional non-specific Springfield USA.

The Dick Van Dyke Show was set in New Rochelle, NY. This map is a great idea!

My friend suggests adding “I Dream Of Jeannie” (Cocoa Beach, FL). And what about”Bewitched”???

what’s the evidence that pete and pete’s wellsville, ny is western new york? Always seemed very Long Island/Levittown to me.
