There are hundreds of wrestlers in Kinshasa city on the Congo River. In the evening, they lead audiences in motorized parades to the backyards and back streets where their semi-fixed matches begin. Their costumes — from the luchador-esque macho men and mystical spell casters to priests and Spidermen — complement their furious charisma. I like that you can tell that he just took a pee on the ground right before this pic was taken. Nice touch.
I shouldn’t be amazed anymore about the global influence of Western culture but pics like this still catch me off-guard. Love the mashup from both cultures. An inspiring use of limited resources even in subject poverty.
Let’s just hope picture #9 was fake and not an action shot…oooof!
