Seiichi Hayashi’s Pretty Illustrations of Modern Young Women

Share:

Best known for his work on Red Colored Elegy, an underground Japanese manga from the early ’70s, Manchuria-born artist Seiichi Hayashi more recently drew a striking series of illustrations of young women that were featured in a 2008 calendar called Modern Beauty. There’s something incredibly magnetic about the resulting images; while his subjects are engaged in everyday activities that range from unwinding over a glass of wine and to reading a book, their body language — always slightly turned away from the viewer — emanates a mysterious, effortless cool that sucks us right in. Click through to page through the calendar, which we spotted thanks to a post over on Booooooom, and let us know if you find these aloof ladies as swoon-worthy as we do!
