Pussy Riot Members Burn Putin Photo in New Video

It’s been nearly three weeks since August 17th, when a trio of Pussy Riot members were sentenced to two years in labor camps on charges of hooliganism. So, what has the rest of the feminist punk band/activist art collective been up to since then? Oh, you know, making an intense video in which they rappel down a wall and then burn an image of Russian president Vladimir Putin. Through NME, Pussy Riot have released the minute-long clip, where members also thank their international supporters and explain, “Our country is dominated by evil men. These men think it’s illegal to call yourself a feminist, to sing punk music. These men think it’s illegal to stand up for the rights of the gay and lesbian community. These men think that you can’t criticize your government. These men think that if you sing and dance in an inappropriate way, you get two years in prison.” Sure to be controversial, the video showcases what Pussy Riot does best: using flashy, energetic, sensational actions to educate the international community about what’s going on in Russia. Watch it at NME.
