A Strikingly Beautiful Face Painted in Black and White

Rarely has a photo series been as bluntly, concisely, and accurately titled as Alexander Khokhlov’s Weird Beauty. The Moscow-based photographer, known in part for his fashion and beauty work, captured a gorgeous model with her face entirely painted in black and white. In some images, she’s covered by symbols of technology and consumerism — a giant QR code, Mickey Mouse, the Chanel logo; others are optical illusions or surreal designs that distort the viewer’s perspective. All of them make us question what it means to use a beautiful face as a canvas, the way advertising so often does. Click through to see a selection of shots from Weird Beauty, which we discovered via Trendland, and visit Khokhlov’s website to see more of his work.
