This week’s mix features some names we’ve mentioned before, including Mystery Jets and Alex Winston. The Flavorpill Mixtape XXV: of Montreal, Voxtrot, Pains of Being Pure At Heart

Although you may not recognize every band on this week’s mixtape (yet), rest assured that most of these acts will be ubiquitous soon enough. Familiar faces (Kisses, Freelance Whales) and recognizable names (of Montreal, Voxtrot) aside, some are ‘90s bands gone solo (Admiral Hadley, Pete Francis) and others are breaking bands that deserve your attention (Quadron, Hooray!). Be sure to Right Click + Save As the following ten individually, or scroll down to the bottom to download the entire mix all at once.

Would you be able to recognize some of the world’s most famous artists if they were reduced to smiley face stereotypes? From a one-eared Van Gogh to a melting Dali, the gang’s all here, boiled down to their simplest forms. After the jump, forget that intro class you took in college on art icons, and behold The History of Art in its entirety — as told via emoticons.

Rate-a-Trailer: The American

+

From Anton Corbijn, the director of Control (and the photographer responsible for most of the visuals you associate with Depeche Mode and U2), comes The American, a new thriller starring George Clooney. As a soon-to-be retired assassin awaiting his final instructions in small-town Italy, Jack (Clooney) should be keeping a low-profile. Instead, he befriends a priest and makes a new lady friend. While perhaps not the most original setup, the trailer suggests a visually ravishing, intricately moving story — like a heady mix of In Bruges and Quantum of Solace. Let us know what you think after the jump.
