Since it’s now officially summer, we figured we’d give our fellow music lovers more than just weekly mixtapes. This weekend, don’t miss our Northside Festival showcase in Williamsburg with performances from Oberhofer, Twin Shadow, Grandchildren, and Drink Up Buttercup. Over the past week, it’s been really hot and then really wet and unseasonably cold in New York. The weather can’t make up its mind, but luckily we’ve already decided on the week’s ten best new jams, all oven fresh. From Anton Corbijn, the director of Control (and the photographer responsible for most of the visuals you associate with Depeche Mode and U2), comes The American, a new thriller starring George Clooney. As a soon-to-be retired assassin awaiting his final instructions in small-town Italy, Jack (Clooney) should be keeping a low-profile. Instead, he befriends a priest and makes a new lady friend. While perhaps not the most original setup, the trailer suggests a visually ravishing, intricately moving story — like a heady mix of In Bruges and Quantum of Solace.
