Daniela Edburg is a Houston artist whose work often focuses on death. In projects titled everything from Drop Dead Gorgeous to The Remains of the Day, a series of photos of pretty girls faking dead amid gorgeous scenery, Edburg’s obsession with capturing the thin line between the living and the stiff is clear. With this new collection of photos juxtaposing nuclear bombs and everyday suburban life, Edburg places disaster images in the context of lifestyles that tradiotionally represent safety and security. Above is a street-artist who has kept his real identity a secret since 1995, when he first started his often arrow-themed public artwork. Recently, Above spent 12 days hanging 100 upward-pointing arrow-shaped posters of 50 male and 50 female Hollywood celebrities around L.A., high above the typical common folk below. Spanish graphic designer Mark Brooks has created a unique series of posters that require the viewer to, as he puts it, “distance yourself from the stars and enjoy the view.” Up close, there’s nothing but a sea of black dots; step away from your computer (or tilt the computer screen backwards), and the true portraits become visible.
