Is Indie Dead?
by Christopher Weingarten, who tweets 140-character record reviews of 2010's new releases @1000TimesYes

This is such a boring, hackneyed non-argument that I'm honestly kind of shocked that it was a cover story. I'm barely 30 and remember the last two times this went around — "Is Alternative Dead?" and "Is Punk Dead?" The annoying thing is that it's not an argument about youth culture, it's an argument about SEMANTICS. Maddux is smart, she knows this, and even writes about this, but in a concession to our controversy-sells internet economy, finds the most roundabout, confrontational, hackle-raising way of saying it.

Even though Green Day was buying yachts in 1994, there's still some 14 year old kid playing Germs covers in a suburban rec room.
