It’s finally warming up here in New York, which we assumed would mean that the number of Cultural Missed Connections would be off the charts this week. Not so. It seems that most of you crazy kids run straight for the park the moment temperatures hit 80. Lucky for us, a few culture vultures eschewed the sunlight for the theatre, live shows, and the Tribeca Film Festival. Bless their pale, lonely hearts. Our favorite MCs after the jump. Read More »

Oh, the life of being a single twenty something in New York… Whether you’re tripping over sprawled out bodies at the Whitney or filming a scene while being tied up in a bathroom covered in fake blood (we hope it was), you may find your Cultural Missed Connection in the most unpredictable of scenarios. Because coffee-shop romance is so obvious. Read More »

Single readers, it’s that time of the week again — you know, when you can laugh at people who are way more lonely than you’ll ever be — Cultural Missed Connections! In this installment we bring you a few dating whoppers that include but are not limited to: straight love at a Disney musical, an open letter to Jason Schwartzman, and a girl trying to reunite with a guy who was dressed up like a panda at a pillowfight. God bless the New York singles scene. Read More »

So we got in a little trouble with you guys last week because we called this guy creepy — apologies, we just found his phrasing stuffy. And then we told you about Julia Wirtz, whose new book I Saw You… is inspired by anonymous posts from Craigslist’s Missed Connections. Now would you believe that it’s time for another round of Cultural Missed Connections? Guess time flies when you’re helping people laugh at people who are trying to find love… Read More »

Exclusive: Julia Wertz Milks Genius From Missed Connections

Julia Wertz‘s I Saw You…Comics Inspired by Real Life Missed Connections is at once an anthology of work by top contemporary comics artists and an enticing overview of the voyeurism that has crawled into our everyday lives. The book features comics inspired by anonymous posts from Craigslist’s Missed Connections section, compiled into a mosaic of perverted romanticism and all-too-public heartache. Wertz recently chatted with Boldtype’s Chelsea Bauch about the gift of procrastination, online honesty, and the fine line between romance and creepiness.

In New York, love is lurking everywhere you turn — at museums uptown, in the crowd at live shows, and even in the depths of a secret Entenmann’s outlet in Queens that we’ve never heard of before now! Thanks to our weekly Cultural Missed Connections column, that shy hottie who was eying your plaid at the Morrissey concert can become so much more than just a brief eye lock. Or not. (Whatever happens, we love you.) After the jump a roundup of some of the week’s juiciest MCs along with our running commentary. And if you have a recent missed connection of your own, feel free to leave it in the comments and allow us to play cupid. We love that!

Yup, yup. You guessed it folks. It’s time for another edition of cultural Missed Connections. While we’ve yet to help any of you find love (as far as we know), having a work-related excuse to troll through the MCs and laugh at people we don’t know is reason enough to keep this column alive. Plus, as it turns out, it helps with Flavorwire’s search engine optimization; you wouldn’t believe how many people land on our site looking for “seth green goth chick” because of this post. We wish we were kidding.

But enough about us. After the jump find this week’s installment of the lonely (but learned) heart’s club with our running commentary; chime in on your favorite in the comments.

It’s that time of the week again: brace yourselves for some cultural Missed Connections. Why do we love rounding these up for you so much? Because when they aren’t posted by creepy guys who are trying to “time” their workouts so that you’ll bump into each other in the gym (there’s a word for that: stalking) they are hilarious.

But talk is cheap. After the jump we present a handful of potential blossoming relationships — and for the first time, some of our running commentary; be sure to weigh in our your favorite CMC in the comments.

Hear that sound? It’s the noise of us rubbing our hands together in anticipation of this week’s installment of cultural Missed Connections. Why do we love rounding these up for you so much? Obviously there’s the voyeuristic thrill of intercepting a plaintive, Hail Mary of a message that’s actually intended for someone else. It’s like having a misfired note land on your  desk back in middle school. And then there’s the tiny part of us that likes to think that one day, maybe we’ll actually end up helping on our readers find love. Remember Mystery Subway Girl? That story gave us chills. Even if it didn’t end well.

Enough talk. After the jump, proof that if you’re a lonely lady about town, you might want ditch the singles bar and scoop up some tickets to see Billy Elliot.

Our post Valentine’s Day prediction for cultural Missed Connections was a bit off. We expected tons of mushy, lovey dovey, gag-inducing posts  — but what we found left us in uncontrollable giggle fits. Who are these people and why do they think insulting someone, talking loudly about venereal disease, or giving someone your business card when you’re on a date with someone else, is the way to anyone’s heart?

After the jump, get ready to LOL at a handful of rather dark-sided posters who might actually need to be alone while they work through some issues.
