Today at Flavorpill, we were just as excited as everyone else on the Internet was about OK Go’s music video for their cover of the “Muppet Show Theme Song.” We were saddened by the news that Frank Potenza, better known as “Uncle Frank” from Jimmy Kimmel Live!, has passed away at the age of 77. We thought that the idea of creating a theme park on the site of a nuclear reactor was absolutely nuts — even if it was never used. We were amused to hear that students at Creative Circus, a two-year advertising school in Atlanta, are campaigning to have Don Draper to speak at their graduation. We hoped to never encounter a staircase that’s as creepy as any of these are. We listened to a new Florence and the Machine track called “What the Water Gave Me,” which will presumably be featured on the band’s forthcoming sophomore album. We were amazed by George Bernard Shaw’s crazy Lazy Susan writing hut. And finally, we bookmarked Mental Floss’ roundup of the world’s most unusual restaurants. Our favorite of their picks? Ithaa, an underwater restaurant in the Maldives that’s located 16 feet below sea level.
Today at Flavorpill, we were thrilled to see that the Sassy Gay Friend meme has hit Tumblr. We learned that sometimes a bomb scare is just a stuffed toy horse. We watched cute little kids reenact the horror that is E!’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians. We met the 7 Don Drapers who came before Don Draper. We enjoyed Roger Ebert’s list of 100 great moments from the movies. We were excited to hear that a print publication is actually launching a book review section instead of shutting one down. We tried to decide which female action hero’s closet we’d most like to raid. We decoded the secret symbolism hidden in these clever logos. We weren’t sure why IKEA would want 100 cats roaming around their store at night. And finally, we watched a baby monkey ride a pig backwards, fall off, and get right back on.
Today at Flavorpill, we were sad to say goodbye to Paste Magazine. We were a little embarrassed by how excited we got over these True Blood action figures — but that was nothing compared to how we geeked out when we saw the new Calvin and Hobbes postage stamps. We wondered what would possess a man to legally change his name to “American Poetry.” We got our first look at the second season of Glee, which unfortunately includes the gang tackling the most overplayed song of all-time, “Empire State of Mind.” We dreamed of seeing someone wearing a texting thimble in public. We weren’t surprised that Don Draper would opt for an iPhone over a BlackBerry. We were reminded of how much we love Napoleon Dynamite’s opening title sequence. And finally, we gleaned some wisdom from 50 Cent’s totally NSFW Twitter feed. Can you believe his grandma still makes him take out the garbage?

We’ll admit it. Our excitement for the Season 4 premiere of Mad Men has been a little out of control of late. It’s almost reminiscent of the times when we would anxiously wait for weeks in advance of Christmas. While the thought of Don Draper sneaking down the chimney late at night makes us want to hide our sisters, it would be a fun idea to treat the Mad Men premiere like the gift-giving holiday. Summer is finally here, and although we are excited (unlike some people), the season just doesn’t feel like it used to. Gone are the times when we could unabashedly run through the fountain at the local town center. Flying down the Slip ‘n Slide guilt- and injury-free without the context or liquid courage provided by alcohol? Not an option. However, we can be nostalgic for those times. So here is a long list of just about all the summer activities we wish we could be doing right now instead of being cooped up in the office.
