Noah Baumbach’s “Greenberg” = LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends”

+

In the trailer for Noah Baumbach’s Greenberg, Ben Stiller (who plays the title character) complains that no one calls him on his birthday anymore, writes an angry letter to Starbucks, and worries that he’ll catch the illness that’s afflicting his dog. “I’m freaked out by you kids because your parents were too perfect at parenting, all that Baby Mozart and Dan Zanes songs. You’re all ADD and carpal tunnel,” he says to a room full of 20-somethings. “I hope I die before I end up meeting one of you in a job interview.”

Yes, it looks like Greenberg, which comes out next March, is Baumbach’s take on aging. After the jump, check out the first trailer and follow along as we pass premature judgment.

The inaugural Electric Zoo electronic music festival — which took over Randall’s Island over Labor Day weekend — was an unmitigated success. Not that the gorgeous weather didn’t do its part, but Made Event should be commended for putting on a large-scale festival that still felt intimate and for curating a diverse line-up of artists that didn’t feel schizophrenic. Perhaps there was no greater measure of the festival’s success than seeing fun fur-clad hoop dancers, shirtless frat boys, Wayfarer-wearing hipsters, and former club kids all getting down with equal abandon to James Murphy and Pat Mahoney’s closing night Special Disco Version set. Something had to be right if that mixed of a crowd was losing it to a Paul McCartney disco one-off at the same time that David Guetta was pounding the main stage with his arena-sized Sexy French House. Quote of the Day: James Murphy at the MTV Movie Awards

+

“i was very hungover today, mainly because i drank a lot of drinks with alcohol in them yesterday. i accompanied my tv star friend to the mtv movie awards because it seemed like the most hilariously hollywood thing i could possibly do right then, and wound up at times pretending to be either his publicist or body guard, which was very funny. i also ate a lot of these skewers with a shrimp and a green olive on them.  they were good, but not substantial enough really to soak up the shitty free beer that they have at these things.”

- James Murphy on his MySpace blog. He goes on to chronicle what he learned at the MTV Movie Awards, namely that Will Ferrell is nice, Danny McBride is hilarious, and Chris Isaacs really likes his dog. PS: We had no idea Murphy was so tight with Aziz Ansari.
