So maybe the origins of today’s national stoner holiday aren’t all that flashy (you have a group of kids from San Rafael High School who called themselves “the Waldos” and are now in their fifties to thank), but it still deserves a decent playlist. If you plan on inviting some friends over after work to “brainstorm”, check out our thirteen selections after the jump to avoid harshing anyone’s buzz. Enjoy!

For the past several years, summer music mega-fest lineups have been cause for concern. Just last year, Lollapalooza headliners included Depeche Mode, Tool, Jane’s Addiction, and Lou Reed. Paul McCartney, Morrissey, The Cure, and My Bloody Valentine were among the bold-face names at the generally forward-thinking Coachella. Meanwhile, at Bonnaroo, things looked even bleaker: Bruce Springsteen, Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, and Phish (playing not one but two sets!) took the top spots. What was this, I Love the ’90s (and the ’80s… and the ’70s… and the ’60s)?
Finally, that all seems to be changing. In a little over a week, fans at Coachella will look forward to headlining performances by Jay-Z, Gorillaz, and Muse. With today’s announcement of the Lollapalooza 2010 lineup, it looks like summer music festivals may finally have entered the 21st century.

Lithuania-based The Love Agency has created an homage to ten love songs of the indie persuasion with human-sized posters of the highest caliber. The project includes the likes of Belle & Sebastian, Phoenix, and Bon Iver (just to name a few), so it’s really no surprise that they were all auctioned off for a king’s ransom. Check them all out, especially our favorite, which was inspired by Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps,” after the jump, and keep your fingers crossed for a second edition.

Today at Flavorpill, we learned that having a case of the Mondays is a real, proven thing. We wondered how long it will take before we’re all replaced by robot journalists. We downloaded Phoenix’s new eight-track live album. (Did we mention that it’s free?) We went inside of a fancy mansion that Steve Jobs is planning to demolish. We had a hard time determining if this light sculpture was real or just a rendering. We met the eight types of people you need to banish from your social media circles. We learned a little something about the “@” sign. And finally, we wondered if future generations of Americans will be able to fit in China’s tiny cars of the future. We’re going to go out on a limb and say no.
For the past decade, the fifth graders chorus at PS22, the largest elementary school on Staten Island, have attained internet fame with their covers of modern day pop songs, ranging from the work of Tori Amos to Lady Gaga to The Beatles. Led by multi-instrumentalist Gregg Breinberg, these elementary schoolers sing with feeling and heart, which is evident in their unpredictably soulful renditions. Riding the wave of yesterday’s buzz from The Village Voice, MTV, and Teen Vogue sparked by their new arrangement of Phoenix’s “Listzomania,” we’ve rounded up nine additional favorites from the PS22 back catalog. Weigh in on which one you like the most.

Today at Flavorpill, we imagined a Utopian world where the adorable kids from PS22 would sing everything that’s on our iPod — not just Phoenix’s “Lisztomania.” We watched some of last year’s most awkward Willard Scott moments on The Today Show. We wished that we could go shopping at the upside down GAP store. We schooled ourselves on the top 10 biggest Oscar snubs in history and tried to identify these famous movie quotes in graphic form. We wanted to go for a spin in the “Carpuccino” — a car which runs off of coffee granules. We liked the looks of 8-bit NYC. We learned 5 things most people don’t know about Ansel Adams. And finally, we were thrilled to hear that Betty White will in fact appear on an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live. That said, if she’s just one of those random guests on What Up With That? we will riot.
This week’s mix will take you all over the world: the Spanish Sahara, Bermuda, South Africa, and back home to New York. In addition to the globetrotting tracks are a few new spins on classics, along with some completely raw new talent. Right Click + Save As if you prefer to pick and choose as you go, or save yourself some time and download the mix in its entirety here.

The good people of Bonnaroo have decided to heighten the suspense of the list of bands playing this year’s festival by releasing the names one by one today via Twitter from noon to 9 p.m. The fest will take place from June 10-13 in Manchester, Tennessee, and thus far, it looks even more promising than last year’s lineup, which was helmed by Phish and Bruce Springsteen.
Just don’t forget to travel light before you get too psyched.

Today at Flavorpill, we discovered that Bruce Springsteen is not suing a New York bar. We laughed at hipster puppies — bring on the coffee table book! We remembered how much we used to love Harriet from Small Wonder. We watched Raekwon serenade Sade. We wondered who would agree to vanish just to win $10K. (It’s almost as crazy as spending 74 minutes watching Susan Orlean and Kurt Andersen on Bloggingheads.) We had our Avatar fantasies squashed. We were suspicious of what Flickr is doing with all of those historical documents. The news of Amanda Palmer + Weird Al+ Francis Bean’s vocal debut on an Evelyn Evelyn track practically blew our mind. And then Snooki interviewed Phoenix, and we had a mind explosion.
