Photo Gallery: Alec Soth’s America

Share:

An internationally exhibited artist, Magnum photographer, and author of several monographs, Alec Soth has an uncanny eye and intuitive sensibility for documenting people and places on film. Shooting mainly with a large-format camera, he has journeyed down the Mississippi, up the Niagara, and into the heartland in pursuit of everyday subject matter. Referring to himself as a wanderer, Soth is likely to turn up anywhere an assignment and his curiosity take him. The subject of a current survey show of his American photographs from nearly the past two decades, the wandering artist — who’s also an insightful blogger — puts his creative soul on the line and comes out looking noble.

From Here to There: Alec Soth’s America, which is accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue, is on view at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis through January 2.
