In case you haven’t noticed, cake culture has gotten kind of out of control. It seems like every day photos of another pop-culture cake go viral, while cake decorating competitions rule the Food Network. And then, of course, there is the inimitable Cake Wrecks. When she began her Confections project, artist Amy Stevens didn’t set out to make imperfect desserts. Soon enough, she realized that she’d rather have colorful, joyful cakes than prim and precise ones. We can’t vouch for how they taste, but these gorgeous and funny cake wrecks, photographed in front of complementary backgrounds, are certainly a feast for the eyes.
