Reveling in layers of reverb and delay, UK quartet Exit Calm are reviving early ’90s British shoegaze in a very big way.
The band’s self-titled debut album was mixed by Ulrich Schnauss, himself a champion of dense, lush, and evocative productions. Drawing comparisons to early work by the Verve, as well as acts like Spiritualized and Swervedriver, it’s populated by music custom made for dark roads, late nights, and headphone epiphanies.
