Here’s some news from the science world that we find thoroughly entertaining: After having a group of old people watch the original BBC version of The Office, researchers in New Zealand discovered that they don’t really grasp what embarrassing behavior is — which in turn, is why they do embarrassing stuff. Or, as our favorite line in the Telegraph article explains, “Psychologists found that older people were less adept at spotting [David] Brent’s gaffes, which include him abandoning a wheelchair-bound woman in a stairwell during a fire alarm and failing to realize he cannot dance.” Wowza. The aged participants also had greater difficulty recognizing what on-screen characters were feeling based on their facial expressions and body language. If you ask us, this sounds like self preservation if you frequently tend to behave as badly as Brent does. [via Gawker]
