For the past few years there have been rumors that talking too much on your cell phone would fry your brain, but we’ve always chalked it up to that same brand of fear mongering that says you shouldn’t be in the same room as a microwave. Now, for the first time, a new study has shown that radiation from your cell phone has a direct impact on brain activity, particularly in the area closest to the antenna — even if you’re not talking on the device and just holding one up to your head. While the long-term health implications of these findings remain unclear, and in fact, stimulating your brain could actually be a good thing, we plan to use this as scientific support for the text-only communication rule we have with everyone but our parents.
