Is Urban Outfitters Ripping Off American Apparel Ads?

In case it wasn’t already apparent, we read a lot of blogs here at Flavorwire — which means we see a lot of ads. So, when we came across the latest Urban Outfitters campaign, we knew immediately why it looked so familiar: It’s basically an American Apparel ad. There’s the white background, the black text, the scant copy, the ample display of skin against a fairly blank background. The AA aesthetic is almost always minimal, but that’s part of why it’s so recognizable. And it makes sense that Urban would want to crib their competitor’s style. Both companies appeal to the same hipster-wannabe demographic, and even though AA is struggling financially, well… can you think of a single memorable Urban ad from the last few years?

What’s funny is, this isn’t even the first time Urban Outfitters has been accused of ripping off American Apparel ads.
