Internet companies — they grow up so fast! Today is Kickstarter’s second birthday, and to celebrate they’ve posted a slew of graphs tracking their progress. For those of us who love to see great, creative ideas flourish, the take-home is encouraging: In March, Kickstarter projects received a whopping $7 million, up from under $1 million in February 2010. Total projects are on the rise, too, with over 2,000 launched last month. And there’s more good news: Once your proposal receives its first pledge, it has a 52% chance of succeeding. We were especially interested in the graph above, which compares funding across categories. Film is by far the top earner, which probably has more to do with how expensive filmmaking is than any prejudice among Kickstarter donors.
