As CD sales continue to plummet, the past few years have, at least, brought one small piece of good news for America’s record stores: people are buying vinyl records again. While this still relatively small sector isn’t enough to save the industry, it does prove that there’s a resurgence of appreciation for analog sound quality and albums as physical objects. But exactly how substantial has vinyl’s comeback been? This infographic from Digital Music News, based on a new projection that vinyl sales will increase by a whopping 28.6 percent in 2011, paints a promising picture. Of course, earlier this month, DMN posted a graph that puts these numbers in perspective, clarifying that the current figures are still tiny compared to vinyl sales at their height in the ’70s.
