We’ve been into the work of Chicago-based, mid-century street photographer (and career nanny) Vivian Maier since long before it made a major splash on the internet in April. But we didn’t realize that this subtle observer of urban life had created so many fascinating self-portraits throughout her life, so we’re grateful that Kottke pointed us to this extensive collection of Maier’s photos of herself. The images give us great insight into how Maier saw herself — reflected in all manner of mirrors or a shadow in the background of a city scene, and always carrying her camera. Our favorite selections are after the jump.
