The Met Was Wildly Popular This Year

And now for some news that would make Claudia Kincaid smile: The Metropolitan Museum of Art just had its best attendance numbers in over four decades, thanks to the 5.68 million people who visited during the fiscal year that ended on June 30. If you ask us, a lot of this has to with Alexander McQueen, whose breathtaking Savage Beauty exhibition, which has brought in more than 500,000 visitors since opening in early May, and had a wait time of over two hours when we went to check it out. An even bigger factor: The museum’s in-house Picasso retrospective, which if you remember, was one of the most popular exhibitions of 2010 worldwide, and brought in a whopping 703,256 visitors. All of this becomes even more impressive when you factor in the Met’s recently updated $25 “suggested” admission fee. Anyway, yay art! [via ArtDaily]
