A few weeks back when Jason Bateman appeared on The Daily Show to promote The Change-Up, the inevitable “when is the ‘Arrested Development’ movie happening” question was asked. “The movie is in the works,” he reluctantly responded. “However, we associated with the show feel like real tools when we’re asked this question — which we’re asked often — and we’d love to answer it, but there’s never really a significant update.”
While that hasn’t changed exactly, ScreenRant has posted an alleged plot for the Arrested Development movie that we couldn’t resist sharing with you. This rumored storyline — which “will be announced within the next few weeks” — comes from a source who recently spent time with one of the show’s stars, and will probably sound familiar to fans of the show.
“Ron Howard is making a movie about the Bluths using an A-List cast,” says the source. “But Dr. Tobias plays himself because nobody wants to play him in the movie. The Bluths decide to make their own movie in contention with Ron Howard’s.” So basically it would just be an extended, big-budget continuation of the series’ finale’s epilogue. We don’t know about you, but we’d be OK with that.
