Nathan Stapley’s Paintings of Pop Culture “Gangs”

If you like organizing things as much as we do, then you’re going to love Nathan Stapley’s new solo show at Gallery1988 Venice. For The Same Gang the New York City-based artist has created a series of new works that group pop-culture icons together by shared attributes. In Dads, Jack Torrance, Darth Vader, Mrs. Doubtfire, the dudes from My Two Dads, and Homer Simpson can be seen hanging out at a backyard BBQ. Ramones Warriors pits some of NYC’s most iconic badasses — one group real, the other fictional — against one another in a subway car. Click through for a quick preview of what other pop culture gangs will be on display at Gallery1988 through September 10.
