Amazing “Woven” Photographs of Urban Life

Sometimes when you’re walking the streets of a city, it starts to feel infinite, like the sidewalk will never end. But in the midst of such urban sprawl can also come feelings of claustrophobia — especially in a place like Seoul, which has seen its population grow more than five times since the ’60s, says South Korean photographer Seung Hoon Park. His beautiful work, which we spotted on Colossal, is a direct response to these conflicting emotions experienced by most urbanites.

“My project called Textus shows the sprawling appearance and complexity of these cities,” he explains. “I use positive 16mm movie film that I cut and load in a large format camera. When processed the result is a mosaic of films, like a detailed patchwork that composes an inextricable labyrinth where the eye can get lost.” Click through for a slide show of highlights from the series.
