’80s Icon Don Johnson to Join Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’?

Miami Vice meets Tarantino? Given the director’s proclivities, it doesn’t seem that strange — but Deadline is reporting that it actually might happen. The Pulp Fiction director’s new film, Django Unchained, may see ’80s culture icon Don Johnson in the role of wealthy plantation owner Spencer Bennett. Once again, Tarantino is finding a former star and giving him a chance to relaunch his career. (Remember John Travolta and David Carradine?) Apparently QT has been in negotiations with Sonny Crockett about a role in the movie — which finds a slave-turned-bounty hunter rescuing his wife from Johnson’s deadly character — for some time. Johnson would join cast members Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kurt Russell in the neo-western — which is set to release December 2012. Is vice cop to villain a big stretch?
