Photos of a Northern California Marijuana Harvest

Autumn is a time to celebrate the year’s agricultural bounty, but not every new crop belongs on your great aunt’s Thanksgiving table — marijuana, for instance. For his Harvest series, which we spotted at White Zine, photographer Mathieu Young documented the weed-harvesting process at a Northern California farm. The resulting photos provide a fascinating glimpse at how marijuana is grown, cut, and packaged, before it ever reaches the hands of dealers or dispensaries, while the bandannas that obscure workers’ faces from the camera remind us of how risky and illegal their occupation remains. See a selection of the most striking images from Harvest after the jump, and then visit Young’s website to see the rest of the series and learn more about his work.
