You know when pop culture worlds collide — like when Liz Lemon dressed up like Princess Leia — and it makes you feel like your head is going to explode, but in a good way? Well, that’s how we feel about the news that Helen Mirren would like to take on the character of the Doctor in Doctor Who.
As our friends over at The Mary Sue are quick to point out, as great as this would be, the odds of it actually becoming a reality are pretty slim. Mirren is a big time film star, and while it has a huge cult following, Doctor Who is but a humble TV series. That said, at this point in her career, Mirren has probably banked enough brownie points with her management team to do whatever it is that she pleases. Plus, despite the fact that producers toyed around with the idea in the ’80s, she’d be the first woman in the show’s long history to play a Time Lady — quite the feather in her cap, in our opinion. What do you think of the idea of Mirren taking over when the current Doctor, Matt Smith, decides to move on? Do you have any alternate casting suggestions?
