Untag This Photo: A Series of Provocative Nightlife Images

As New York City nightlife photographer Dina Litovsky explains it, her job has changed a lot over the past few years. Thanks to the growing popularity of sites like Facebook, the kind of wildly exhibitionist, look-how-much-fun-we’re-having photos that would have been snapped during a friend’s trip to Mardi Gras or Cancun are now becoming just a part of your average Friday night — especially, she suggests, for her female subjects. “Cameras, ever more compact and omnipresent, are increasingly admitted into heretofore ‘private’ realms: late-night dance halls, erotic events, even in the bedroom. Instead of an instrument of voyeurism, the camera becomes a welcomed participant,” Litovsky writes. “The women photographed are not just permitting but actually performing for the camera; it connects them, the virtual exhibitionists, to a vast anonymous audience.”
