Finally! New Fiona Apple Music Coming in 2012

Maybe this is just our inner angsty high schooler talking, but we’ve sure missed Fiona Apple. For those who have lost count, it’s been well over six years since her last album, 2005’s equally long-delayed Extraordinary Machine. And if Apple’s recent frustrated live banter is any indication, the new material has been done and tied up in label drama for awhile — a familiar story for fans who launched a “Free Fiona” campaign to force the release of its predecessor. But it looks like no such movement will be necessary this time around, because Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid has announced that we’ll see the new stuff very soon: “Lot’s of good music coming from @Epic_Records in the next few weeks. Stay tuned music fans. Welcome back Fiona!” he tweeted Sunday. We’ll take just about anything Apple has to offer at this point, but what we’re really hoping for is one of her signature scorched-earth torch songs, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
