Project Runway and Top Chef creators Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz — the producing team otherwise known as Magical Elves — seem like the perfect fit to direct a 3D Katy Perry movie. According to THR that may be happening, which would place the singer in line with other pop stars turned screen icons like Justin Bieber (Cutforth and Lipsitz were behind his Never Say Never). Whether the wide-eyed singer will be entirely forthcoming in the upcoming Paramount feature remains to be seen, but the film “will aim to show Perry’s life on-stage and off-stage and give a fan’s perspective on the pop singer.” With Magical Elves’ reality show experience and a highly successful pop movie in the bag (Bieber’s film grossed $73 million in the U.S. alone), we’re guessing this would be a winning partnership. If they sign on, the duo want to collaborate with director Craig Brewster (Footloose) who would executive produce.
Perry confirmed the film news on her Twitter account: “FINALLY, my MOVIE is coming out with Paramount this summer! It’s called “KATY PERRY: PART OF ME” Presented In 3D! KATYCATS-LETS TREND #KP3D” Do you want to see the Smurfy-haired singer in eye-popping 3D, or is this an experience you can definitely say “never” to?
