The Beatles animated 1968 musical movie Yellow Submarine is being remastered for a May 28 Blu-ray and DVD rerelease. THR shared that the restoration process is a delicate undertaking, since the clean up requires a careful frame by frame overhaul due to the fragility of the psychedelic, hand-drawn artwork. Along with the movie, fans will be treated to a soundtrack reissue. Hopefully an additional music-only version will be available, which appeared on a previous DVD release. MGM’s 1999 DVD version has long been out of print, and legal troubles have plagued a reissue — but this digital remastering will be the first frame-by-frame restoration the film has seen.
