NBC Casts Lead Role for Hannibal Lecter Series

Deadline reports that Black Hawk Down and Martha Marcy May Marlene actor Hugh Dancy has been cast as troubled FBI profiler Will Graham in NBC’s upcoming series, Hannibal . The new TV show is not a remake of the 2001 film adaptation, but instead picks up at the beginning of Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s relationship. The great Doc, of course, is the brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer invented by author Thomas Harris in his compelling horror-thriller series, which begins with Red Dragon. Early in their relationship, Graham turns to Lecter for help with a mysterious murderer, but is eventually surprised with a few shocking (and painful) truths.

The show will run 13 episodes long and is being written and produced by Bryan Fuller who has also lined up his Munsters reboot at the network. Our favorite portrayal of Will Graham’s character was in Michael Mann’s Manhunter, as portrayed by CSI star William Petersen. Ed Norton played a less convincing and whinier version in the aforementioned 2001 movie. Does British actor Dancy have the darkness and vulnerability to pull it off? More importantly, when in the heck are they going to announce the Hannibal casting? Chat with us about the show below.
