Lorena Turner’s Haunting Photographs of Michael Jackson Impersonators

Photographer Lorena Turner has been on our radar for a while, but PetaPixel just tipped us off to yet another cool project of hers. “The Michael Jacksons” is a haunting series of portraits of Michael Jackson impersonators, tribute artists and photographers around LA and New York, conceived of as “an index of the refraction of Michael Jackson’s public persona within the culture by exploring issues of fantasy, reality and representation as influenced by and filtered through cultural experience.” There’s something both powerful and delicate, sad and beautiful about some of these portraits, and we wish there were even more of them — Turner is running a kickstarter campaign to raise funds to expand her project. Click through to see some of our favorites from the series, and then be sure to head over to Turner’s website for even more.
