Everyone’s getting in the TV production game these days, huh? With Netflix debuting Lilyhammer, splashily reviving Arrested Development, and rumored to be picking up CBS’s Jericho, and companies like Hulu, YouTube, and Yahoo following suit, it’s no shock that Amazon is jumping on the bandwagon. The online retail giant has announced plans to develop episodic comedy and children’s programming and is soliciting proposals via Amazon Studios, the company’s production arm, which has so far only developed feature films. Would-be showrunners can submit their script and “mini-bible” (a summary of the show’s characters and trajectory) for a 22-minute comedy or 11- to 20-minute kids series and will receive $10,000 to make a pilot if they’re selected.
