There are times when you don’t want to see how the cinematic sausage gets made. But in the case of this fascinating clip shot on a GoPro camera that Steadicam operator Larry McConkey attached to the actual camera that was used to capture the final scenes of Martin Scorsese’s Hugo — a magical little film that was a bit of an Introduction to Cinema course itself — the behind-the-scenes glimpse at the filmmaking process makes perfect sense. Click through to watch boom mics swing, set walls magically fall away, actors navigate the scene to hit their marks, and the camera swoop in for a parting close-up of the mechanical man.
