Gravity-Defying Photos of Parkour in the Bronx

Share:

New York photographer Chris Arnade noticed Jose Garcia in a desolate part of the impoverished neighborhood of Hunts Point. He was working on his ongoing series Faces of Addiction in the Bronx , and Jose was doing a back flip over a hydrant. It was…cinematic. Arnade yelled out, almost chasing off Jose and his rambunctious friends who were kicking over cones and jumping on and over parked cars. They almost ran off because they thought he might be a cop. He’s since befriended the seventeen year-old-kid — Jose the Amazing — and followed him on his parkour jaunts around the city. See him appear to levitate far above the pavement, against the backdrop of vibrant graffitied walls and over the heads of the passersby in our gallery.
