Jason Segel’s The Muppets brought no shortage of bonus footage, some of which is still trickling out over half a year after the film’s release. But as much as we enjoyed the recent eight-minute blooper reel, it can’t hold a candle to the wonderful bit of test footage from 1979’s The Muppet Movie that io9 has discovered. These improvised scenes find Jim Henson’s Kermit and Frank Oz’s Fozzie and Miss Piggy getting meta on the realities of being a puppet — at one point, Kermit tells his ursine companion, “You’ve got foam rubber and fake fur. You’re an artificial bear,” while Fozzie hits back with, “You’ve got a wire on your arm.” Later, Piggy makes a confession so shocking and hilarious that Henson almost breaks character. Get your day made after the jump.
