In 2010, an average New Yorker’s daily commute to work was 31.27 minutes, most traveling by subway. That’s an hour of your life spent among strangers, rushing through subterranean tubes, brushing past anonymous backs, gripping poles, swinging in unison and occasionally falling asleep on each others’ shoulders. Sometimes it takes a visiting photographer from Singapore to stop and capture the simple goings on, the glances and hand gestures that we don’t so much stop to care about, the quietly defining moments from our banal subway limbo.
