Today would have been Stanley Kubrick’s 84th birthday, and everyone’s celebrating in their own way. Our own Claire Cottrell has created an excellent guide to filmmaker’s iconic set design aesthetic, while Letters of Note has the letter Kubrick sent Arthur C. Clarke in 1964 to propose that they collaborate on “the proverbial ‘really good’ science fiction movie.” That film, of course, turned out to be 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is also the subject of a new video by Film School Rejects. Their recut trailer imagines how the classic movie might be advertised in 2012 — when every flick set in space is marketed as a fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride, complete with a frantic soundtrack and dizzyingly quick edits.
